Monitoring a computer can have various advantages, especially if there are children or employees involved. Obviously, you can not wander around the computers to see what everyone is doing and video surveillance is an expensive solution. The best course of action is to install a special application that monitors a computer's desktop. ScreenViewer makes this possible and the best part is that it requires little resources to show you the desktops of any number of computers.

Like most similar applications, ScreenViewer comes in two modules: the server and the client. The client must be installed on your own computer, while the server needs to be installed on computers which you want to monitor. After installing the application, you will need to add it to the firewall's exceptions list, on the server's end, otherwise, you won't be able to connect to that computer.

Viewing someone's desktop remotely can impact your computer's performance considerably, so you would need a powerful machine to view multiple desktops at the same time. Instead of streaming a video feed in real time, ScreenViewer takes screenshots and sends them to your computer. This requires less resources, making it possible to monitor a huge number of computers.

Adding a computer to your watch list requires specifying its IP address and a password, which is created when installing the server module. Computers are displayed as icons, on the left side of the interface. Double clicking a computer will display a screenshot of its desktop, on the right side of the main window. You can refresh a feed manually or you can set the application to take a screenshot automatically every few seconds.

Security is another feature of ScreenViewer. The server module works in the background, without displaying a system tray or other clues that it is monitoring the computer. As previously mentioned, a password must be created when installing the server, preventing other people from monitoring the computer. The client's interface can be password protected as well, so you can leave your computer unattended, without any risks.

Pros

The software can monitor numerous computers, without draining your computer's resources. You can take screenshots manually or set the application to send a screenshot at regular time intervals. Both modules are password protected, so only authorized persons can monitor one or more computers.

Cons

You can only view a computer's desktop. There are no remote control options, like shutting down the computer or disabling certain functions. ScreenViewer lets you see what is happening on numerous remote desktops at the same time. Thanks to its simple, yet effective functionality, you can use the software's full potential, even with less powerful hardware.
